Privacy policy
Your conversations are personal.
This policy explains what Babel handles to translate a conversation, what is saved, who can access it, and how deletion works.
Last updated August 1, 2026
At a glance
- Babel saves text transcripts, not audio recordings, in your chat history.
- Only signed-in participants in a chat can open or export its transcript.
- The chat creator controls deletion of the shared chat and transcript for every participant.
- Payment-card details are entered with and handled by Polar, not Babel.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account identifier, verified email address, and display name. We also save your language preference.
Conversation information. We process live audio to provide speech recognition, translation, and synthesized audio. Babel saves the resulting source and translated text, language choices, speakers, timestamps, chat title, participant details, and invitation status. Babel does not save an audio recording to your account.
Billing and usage information. We keep your plan, subscription status, checkout and order identifiers, translated time used, and billing-period dates. Polar handles payment details and provides Babel with transaction and subscription status; Babel does not receive your full card number.
Technical and support information. Our infrastructure may process IP address, browser and device information, request timestamps, security logs, and errors. If you contact support, we receive the information in your message and any files you choose to send.
How we use information
- Provide live transcription, translation, speech, chat history, and export.
- Authenticate users, deliver invitations, and keep chats private.
- Operate subscriptions, enforce usage limits, and prevent duplicate free use.
- Secure, troubleshoot, improve, and support Babel.
- Meet legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, and compliance obligations.
We do not sell personal information or use the contents of your conversations for advertising.
Service providers
Babel uses service providers to operate the product. These include Google for sign-in, OpenAI for live speech recognition and translation, LiveKit for real-time audio transport, Polar for subscriptions and payments, Resend for invitation email, and cloud hosting and database providers. They process information only as needed to provide their services to Babel and under their own applicable terms and privacy commitments.
Information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate contractual or legal safeguards for international transfers.
Transcript retention and deletion
A transcript contains both participants’ words. For that reason, deleting your Babel account does not independently erase a shared transcript. If you created the chat, delete it before deleting your account. If the other participant created it, ask them to delete it or contact us.
Account deletion
You can delete your account from Account → Danger. This immediately blocks the account and removes your name and email from the active profile. Babel retains the Google account identifier and limited usage, subscription, transaction, and deletion records where needed to prevent abuse and meet billing or legal obligations.
Deleting Babel does not automatically cancel a subscription managed by Polar. Cancel the subscription from Account before deleting, or contact support. Signing in again with the same Google identity may reactivate the account; contact us if you instead want an erasure request reviewed.
Security and your choices
We use access controls, encrypted network connections, expiring invitations, and other reasonable safeguards. No online service can promise absolute security. Do not use Babel to discuss information you are not comfortable sending to a cloud service.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, object to, restrict, or erase personal information, and to complain to a data-protection authority. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
Children and changes
Babel is not directed to children under 13, or under the higher minimum age required in their country. We do not knowingly collect their personal information.
We may update this policy as Babel changes. We will revise the date above and provide additional notice when a material change requires it.
